SWIMMING POOL
Taunton Pool measure 33.3 metres in length by 12.5 metres in width. The depth at the shallow end is 0.9 metres moving to a depth of 3.4 metres at the deep end.
A responsible person aged at least 16 years should accompany all children under the age of 8 and/or any non swimmer into the swimming pool. They will go into the water with the children they are accompanying and maintain a constant watch over the children for whom they are responsible, and maintain close contact with those children who are weak or non swimmers.
A responsible person must accompany children under 4yrs into the water on a one-to-one basis. The sole exception to this is that 2 children under 4yrs (whether swimmers or non swimmers) can be accompanied by one person if both children are wearing arm bands or other approved buoyancy aids.
Children aged 4-7yrs must be accompanied into the water by a responsible person on a maximum two-to-one basis.Again, the sole exception is that 3 children aged 4-7yrs can be accompanied by one responsible person if all children are wearing armbands or approved buoyancy aids.
The purpose of this child admissions policy is to help safeguard that group of pool users who historically are most at risk of drowning in swimming pools.It is not intended to stop children having fun and enjoying swimming, nor is it intended to make life difficult for parents/carers.
