This year, World Heart Day falls on Thursday 29th September and Ivybridge Leisure Centre is throwing down a challenge.
It is estimated that the heart will pump blood around the body a distance of 790km in one hour. This is approximately the same distance as Berwick-on-Tweed is (the most northern town in England) from Ivybridge.
“From 22nd September to World Heart Day on 29th September we would like all our fitness members to keep a record of the distance they have covered during their gym sessions, and have an instructor initial their progress.” Said assistant manager Andy Parsons, for Tone.
“The aim is to collectively achieve the distance of 790km by World Heart Day and there will be a prize for the member who achieves the furthest distance.”
World Heart Day reminds us annually that we have to take care of our hearts. This year’s date also coincides with the 1st Anniversary of the Ivybridge Annual Fitness Challenge. There will be several categories, divided by age groups, with certificates and prizes to those participating. The £2 entrance fee will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and the World Heart Foundation.
