Partying for Chernobyl Children at Totnes

Wednesday, 14 March 2012

Tone Leisure and TADPOOL are providing a fun afternoon on Sunday 15th April from 2-4pm for the children of Chernobyl who are visiting Totnes for a month and staying with host families.

A roller-blading session will provide some thrills with some spills on the bouncy castle, all rounded off with a tea-party.

Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline - CCLL - was established in 1992 in response to the terrible nuclear accident at Chernobyl in the Ukraine, described by the United Nations as the "the greatest environmental catastrophe in the history of humanity”. The organisation has a Totnes and South Hams link and more information can be found at their website (www.ccll.org.uk/totnes)

The ten visiting children from Chernobyl (aged from 8-10years) will be having a busy month including eye tests and dental check-ups. These visits give the children the opportunity to boost their immune systems by eating healthy food and taking part in numerous organised activities.

Jeanette Kneebone, event organiser for Tone said:

“It’s good that we can provide this opportunity for the visiting children. Everyone helping out on the day is volunteering their time and food for the party is being donated by staff and customers.”
