Tone, the social enterprise and leisure trust, has been offering adults in Taunton Deane the opportunity to get “Back on the Bike” and start cycling again. The courses have been designed for mature adults who haven’t ridden a bike for a while, and are keen to start cycling again.
The courses, which are taking place on Sundays, will teach basic skills for set-up and control of the bike, and will give confidence to use roads and cycle paths and ride regularly after the course.
Melissa McCarthy, Health Development Officer said “These courses are a first for Tone’s Community Development Team and we are delighted to be working with NHS Somerset and Dereck Cutler of DC Cycleworks, who is a National Standards Cycling Instructor. For anyone who hasn’t got a bike but would like to take part, we can provide them with a bike and helmet to use during the sessions.”
Local Retailer, The Bicycle Chain are in favour of the project. Callum Tompkins, Cycle Project Officer for Tone said “We’re grateful to The Bicycle Chain, Taunton for their contribution to the exclusive cycle packs that we’re giving away to participants”.
It’s not too late to join a course – a few places are still available.
Back on the Bike is a 4-session course for adults aged 50+ provided by Tone Leisure, taking place on Sundays 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th July 2012 in Taunton.
